Registration

Free registration is mandatory but quick and easy to complete at hotlotz.com or on the app.

Before you start bidding you must complete your online profile and then provide your credit card details. These guarantee your bidding. It also acts as a safeguard, preventing prices being artificially inflated by spurious bidders. We store your financial information using industry-leading encryption.

Minimum Bids

Every lot has a published ‘Minimum Bid’ amount.  This is the lowest price that we can except for a lot. However, it’s also a selling price if no other bidding occurs.

Bidding in Timed Auctions

Timed (or Online) Auctions are conducted on our digital platform. They take place without a human auctioneer ‘calling’ the auction. Every timed auction has a published end time, and lots close in sequence, in 30 seconds intervals.

Lots in timed auction catalogues all clearly show their minimum bid amount or the current bid they have received. You then just need to decide what your maximum bid is. Your bid can be the minimum amount prompted by the platform, or the highest amount you are prepared to pay, but it must be an amount in line with our published bidding increments.

If higher bids are received from competing bidders, our platform will automatically bid on your behalf, increasing your bid in line with published bidding increments. It will only bid as much as is necessary to ensure you stay in the lead and will never go above your stated maximum bid.

You’ll be notified by email if you are outbid by a competing bidder so you have the opportunity to increase your bid.

If you’re outbid in the last two minutes of the lot’s ‘end time’, this time will automatically extend by an extra two minutes to give you more time to increase your bid. This will continue until the bidding stops, just as it would in a live auction.

Winning bidders will receive a system-generated email after the auction has closed which contains their purchase invoice.

Bidding in Live Auctions

Live (or In-Room) Auctions take place in our saleroom with an auctioneer ‘calling’ the auction. They are also occasionally held at locations provided by our partners.  If that’s the case, we’ll mention it in the auction catalogue.

If you can’t come along to a live auction in person but wish to bid, you can still do so using the online platform. Online bidding in live auctions works in exactly the same way as online bidding in timed auctions except that the platform stops accepting new bids at the published end time of the auction.

You just need to decide what your maximum bid is before the auction’s end time. Your bid can be the minimum amount prompted by the platform, or the highest amount you are prepared to pay, but it must be an amount is in line with our published bidding increments.

Up until the end time of the auction you’ll still be notified by email if you are outbid by a competing bidder so you have the opportunity to increase your bid.

When the live auction starts, the auctioneer will ‘call’ the lot and open the bidding with the highest online bid. If there is competition from bidders in the room, the auctioneer will bid on behalf of the absent online bidder. The auctioneer will only bid as much as is necessary to ensure the absent online bidder stays in the lead and will never go above their stated maximum bid.

Winning bidders will receive a system-generated email after the auction has closed which contains their purchase invoice.

Please note that clients bidding in person at live auctions can always outbid absent online bidders. If you absolutely must secure an item you should always attend in person, to avoid any disappointment.

Buyer’s Premium

An all-inclusive buyer’s premium fee of 19.5% will be added to the selling or ‘hammer’ price of each lot sold in timed auctions on the HotLotz platform or in live auctions.

This rises to an all-inclusive buyer’s premium fee of 28% for each lot sold in timed auctions on the-saleroom.com international platform.

We don’t charge additional GST or credit card processing fees.

Buyout Prices

Sometimes we publish an additional ‘Buyout Price’ for an item that is offered for sale at auction. This is a fixed price that we can immediately sell the item for, allowing you to buy it out of the auction.

We don’t charge a Buyer’s Premium fee on lots purchased at Buyout Prices.

If you have any questions about buyout prices, please email hello@hotlotz.com
