All In-room auction lots accept online absentee bidding. Each lot has a published ‘minimum bid’ amount. This is the lowest bid that our system will except from an absentee bidder. This is a selling price if no further bidding occurs.
Registered members can leave absentee bids up until one hour before the published start time of the auction by entering a ‘maximum bid’ on the lot in the online catalogue. This is the highest amount that the bidder is willing to pay for the lot.
Starting at the lot’s minimum bid, our system will automatically bid on your behalf. If any higher online bids are received, we will increase your bid in line with our published bidding increments. The system will only bid as much as is necessary to ensure that you remain in the lead, and will never go above your ‘maximum bid’.
However, our system will notify you by email if another bidder places a bid that is higher than your maximum bid, so that you can manually increase your maximum bid if you wish to.
Absentee bidding will close one hour before the published start time of the in-room auction.
When your lot is called in the saleroom, the auctioneer will open the bidding with the highest absentee bid. If there is competition in the saleroom, the auctioneer will bid on behalf of the absentee bidder. The auctioneer will only bid as much as is necessary to ensure that the absentee bidder remains in the lead, up to their ‘maximum bid’ amount.
